McCarty Clock Restoration

I have been living and working in Philadelphia since returning

from spending two years studying antique clock conservation at

West Dean College,West Sussex, UK.I earned two post-graduate diplomas

in antique clock conservation ('05 & '06) as well as graduating

from the British Horological Institute ('06) where I won the

South Branch prize for the best practical piece.

West Dean is a small (50-60 full-time students) college located on

a 6000 acre estate in the beautiful West Sussex Downs that

specializes in conservation/restoration arts. There are a variety

of programs, each one with separate expert tutors and purpose-built

workshops. There are a maximum of 8 clock students per year and

entry requires a bachelor's degree and passing a rigorous day-long practical test.

I have restored clocks for many local institutions including the following:

Independence National Hall

Union League of Philadelphia

Pennsylvania Hospital

Dietrich American Foundation

Woodford Mansion, Fairmount Park

The Philadelphia Club

Additionally, I have restored 7 Stretch family tallcase clocks including the two

in Independence Hall and the Dietrich American clock which is on display in the

Early American Art galleries of the Philadelphia Museum of Art

Please note that there are unscrupulous people out there who

claim to have "West Dean horological education" who have

never attended or earned degrees from the college. The college

is housed in the original manor house on the estate and hosts

many different conferences and short courses, mostly completely

unrelated to the diploma programs. It would seem obvious that

attending a conference sponsored by a group unaffiliated with

West Dean does not make one "West Dean educated" and anyone claiming

so is, to put it mildly, 'making stuff up'.
